May 25-26 | 8 PM
Thierry Fischer, Conductor
Holt - St Vitas in the Kettle
Beethoven - Symphony No. 1
Strauss - An Alpine Symphony
The Cycle ends at the beginning. Beethoven wrote his 1st Symphony around the turn of the 19th century and though it owes something to his predecessors, namely Haydn, it also contains the seeds of his future mastery of the form. The final Masterworks program also features the massive scale and dazzling orchestration of the Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss. Both works highlight the virtuosity of the Utah Symphony and bring Maestro Fischer's exciting season-long journey to a quiet, dreamlike close.
