Wagner – Prelude to Die Meistersinger Bruch – Concerto No. 1 for Violin
Elgar – Symphony No. 2
Bruch’s First Concerto is adored for its second movement’s intense,
Romantic melody. Following the concerto is Elgar’s Symphony No. 2,
allegedly inspired by Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony. Elgar wrote that
the piece “represents ‘the passionate pilgrimage’ of a soul,” and
dedicated it to the memory of King Edward VII.

explores powerful emotions such as forgiveness, mercy, loss, and
sorrow, and includes an inescapable, trumpeted call to Judgment in the

build passionately to produce a moment of the loudest unamplified music
ever written.
