Have you Seen the Opera Alligator?

January 28th, 2011 by Sara M. K. Neal

The Scenery and Props departments of Utah Opera have many secrets, but few are as fun as the Utah Opera alligator. Have you seen it on stage before? The alligator works its way into every Opera production, camouflaged into the set, props, and sometimes even costumes!

Here’s where the alligator showed up for our production of Hansel and Gretel, on top of the rock that housed the witch’s oven:

When you come to Utah Opera, be on the lookout for the Opera alligator. If you spot the alligator, send an email with a detailed description of the location to alligator@utahopera.org or info@usuo.org. If you’re right, you’ll be entered into a drawing for free tickets to an upcoming opera!
