Musician’s Note: A message from guest Renese King
NOTE: Renese asked me to pass this message on to our patrons.
Dear Friends of the Utah Symphony,
As I look out of my hotel window at Salt Lake’s beautiful landscape, with the awesome and majestic snow-capped peaks rimming the view of the city, I am filled with the wonder and peace that the holiday season brings, and look forward to sharing it’s joyful music with you in this weekend’s concerts. The meaning of “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” one of the traditional spirituals I will be performing with the orchestra this weekend, comes to life in this awesome, mountainous Salt Lake setting. I am also thrilled to see a little snow on the ground. We don’t have any yet in Boston!
But the most exciting thing to me about the music that the Utah Symphony, the Symphony Chorus, and I will be sharing with you this weekend is that it will be just that… a SHARED experience. This program will incorporate many styles, including music influenced by African American spiritual and gospel traditions. This music, at its roots and heart, is a communal, shared experience, and your presence and even your active participation are what will make it extraordinary.
So if you come, you may find yourself doing more than listening…! I hope that is ok with you.
Plus… there will be a surprise guest to help you “get into the spirit” of the season. (And although I’m not talking about Santa, he’s welcome to come too!)
I hope to see you at the concerts,
Peace and joy,
Renese King
